General Motors should invest in Flint, Mich. – Automotive News

TO THE EDITOR:

Regarding “GM wins tax break from Detroit suburb for $1.3 billion plant expansion for EVs, batteries,” autonews.com, Jan. 18: The General Motors expansion is great for jobs, etc.

I worked at Oldsmobile for a number of years while attending Michigan State University, so I love both Lansing and Flint, Mich. I just hope that GM would do some significant expansion in Flint, its birthplace. At one time, Flint had the highest median income in the state. It also once had a population of almost 200,000 people. A great city then to grow up in.

Now there are 90,000 some folks in Flint. There are good, hardworking people there that need work, and the city needs economic investments. These investments would help with both poverty and other challenges. Flint will never be what it was, but it can certainly be better.
